Review: I really craved cheese toasties from my university days so I brought this entry level machine thinking it would be so easy.Firstly, haven’t found the right sized bread yet, the unit is foe very small, perfectly square bread so unless you’re ok cutting up a slice of bread to the right size it will likely be too large.Worst of all is that it doesn’t seal the edges effectively so you’re either eating hardly any filling or having filling spill out all over the unit which is really, really difficult to clean. There are nooks and crannies and even a spring that gets coated in cheese. I spend more time cleaning than eating. It does get sufficiently hot to toast the bread and heat the cheese. The clip at the front has caught my fingers more than once.On the plus side, it’s made me sure I want a panini press – flat surfaces, no dips and creases to clean so I’m shopping for one now.

Review: I grew up in Europe with these sort of sandwich makers. They are very popular there and there are soooo many choices, unlike here. Growing up, I broke one or 2 until I got the hang of it. Be gentle with it, don’t overfill your sandwich, use soft bread. If the corners of the bread are hard and thick, cut them off. Don’t put all the pressure on the handle when you close it, hold it a bit on the sides too, until the part where it gets hot. I am the only one using it so making 2 sandwiches it’s grand. I put the sandwiches in and then close it and then plug it.Keep in mind that everything these days is made to break and to be replaced and not repaired. Be kind and have patience with your appliances and they will last for a long time. Most of the time at least! 😀
